Bentley OpenUtilities CONNECT Edition Help

Selecting Monitoring Preferences

Individual jobs can fail for a number of reasons, depending on the type of job and its operating environment. When a job fails, it is likely to hang while waiting for some event from another system (such as the GIS). In these situations, Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server can respond by waiting a specified interval and then killing the job, or by leaving the job hanging so that a system administrator can correct the send out alerts to the system administrator, another user, or a group of users.

Monitoring settings are configured with the Job Type Preferences dialog box. These settings control how Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server responds to a failed job of this job type as well as the response interval—i.e., the wait time between launching a job and checking whether the job has been successfully executed. If the job has failed, Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server will abort the job and send an alert to the specified user or user group (if the Abort Hung Jobs setting is active) or simply send an alert (if the Send Alert Only setting is active).

Alert messages are normally sent by e-mail. The type of alert depends on the custom code in the job type’s DLL.

To set monitoring preferences for a job type:

  1. From the File menu, point to Preferences and then choose Job Type to open the Job Type Preferences dialog box.
  2. Select the monitoring response that you want for this job type (either Abort Hung Jobs or Send Alert Only).
  3. In the Abort/Alert After box, specify the response interval.
  4. In the Send Alert To box, select the user or user group that you want to notify about failed jobs.
  5. Click Close to save the changes and close the dialog box.
